Mission: Dead Moon
Location: Security Office

The Captain had been summoned, as had the First Officer. The Operations manager was on his way. Security was about to become a flurry of activity which meant any chance she had of getting out of there any time soon was gone. Taking a few moments, Shaille sent a quick message to Koh to tell him she would be working late and then turned her attention back to the console in front of her.

Abigail had just gotten to her own quarters when the call came through that her presence had been requested in the main Security office. With a sigh, she zipped her jacket and headed back out the door. So much for a glass of wine and a good book. Surprised to find Ichiko at the turbolift waiting, she offered a quick smile. "Let me guess, you've been called to security too?" she asked. "You know, that's never going to be a good sign."

Ichiko gave a smirk as Abigail border her turbolift, and a nod, "Seems we both were." she stated with that smirk, "And no, when the shipmaster and the ship's second go to the same department, it's never a good sign."

"Though, I'll take good notes for you." at that, she smiled.

Abigail smiled in return, leaning slightly toward Ichiko, their shoulders barely touching, Abigail's head leaning toward her friend slightly. "And I will take comfort from your presence," she said, knowing full well that the other female was quipping about her own eidetic memory.

As the turbolift stopped, the Commanding Officer paused for a moment, drawing a deep breath before she nodded. "Shall we?" she asked, somewhat rhetorically, as she headed out the door of the turbolift and along the corridor.

A soft smile graced the features of the Daughter of Ts'usu as the turbolift came to a halt. "Let's shall. The journey of a thousand miles begins with the determination to take the first step." she cited, and she took that step along with her Captain.

Shaille didn't bother looking up as she heard the doors opening behind her, instead she focused on the console in front of her, recording the sensor data as it fed back with one hand, the other hand alternating the modulation of the shields.

As the two members of the command staff entered Security, Abigail headed directly for Nikki. "Lieutenant St John, this is Lieutenant Commander Gail, I think you met her in the lounge?"

"Yes, of course. Hello, Commander, and thank you both for coming so quickly," Nikki said. She used one hand to hook her hair behind her ear as she stepped back somewhat to gesture toward Lieutenant Levine. "The Lieutenant here has uncovered something that I think Command needs to be aware of." She turned toward Shaille as she said, "Lieutenant, if you'd show them what you found?"

"So..." Shaille sighed, running a hand through her blonde curls. "I've been running a series of diagnostic scans on the ships sensors since we upgraded them to include the new information we have on hand for the Ar'goshians. The algorithims we were given to program into our sensors glitch every time our shields modulate. It's only a slight glitch, just a fraction of a second, but when the shields modulate more frequently the glitch is obviously more frequent as well. I have the shields running now in a simulation of a heavy battle scenario and the glitch is frequent enough that the ships sensors are actually having trouble compensating for it."

"It was a good catch," Nikki said as she leaned against the edge of a console, arms folded across her chest. "It's a vulnerability and I do not like that we are vulnerable. Even if its a short window of opportunity, it's still an opportunity."

Abigail nodded slowly. "I'm inclined to believe that it's more a configuration or perhaps even an incompatibility issue rather than a blatant error on any one part, but still." She paused momentarily. "It was a good catch, well done Lieutenant." She offered a quick smile at Nikki. "I want you to work with Lieutenant Gunnison, find a way to compensate for it. Maybe even speak to Lieutenant Anera, I know she experienced some difficulties when she was originally programming the tricorders to locate them, there was something about them that our systems just couldn't quite understand."

Will, who'd arrived in time to catch most of the conversation, nodded. "It's probably some minor incompatibility with the new programming. I can certainly take a look at it."

Ichiko had been silent, observing, essentially absorbing the scenario in front of her. "Can we restore the systems back to a point before the information about the Ar'goshians was introduced? They might not know we can't detect them anymore, and there's no point in using a system with an obvious glitch. Until we can get the system under control, that is."

"Only if the security teams carry tricorders that can sense their presence," Nikki said at once. "I'd rather not leave an opening that some enterprising scoundrel could walk through." She shrugged slightly as she added, "Not as good as the ship's sensors but at least someone is still checking while the work's being done."

"I agree. Leaving us defenseless is not an option." Ichiko agreed with Nikki. "How long until we can have portable scans set up and teams on patrol?"

"I've had teams doing patrols since I came aboard," Nikki said. "Tensions have been running a bit high among the crew and seeing teams doing patrols is having a 'cooling' effect which is good.

Abigail nodded slightly. "The tension is definitely lifting, but even with the patrols, I don't want this left unresolved any longer than absolutely necessary. Make this issue a priority repair."

"And in the meantime, I'll make sure that every team is equipped to scan and do so, at random intervals, to prevent someone figuring out the pattern," Nikki said as she shifted her stance slightly.

Ichiko gave a nod of approval. "Prompt, efficient, resourceful...." she shifted her glance slightly upwards, and reached up to run her hand over Nikki's head. About a foot above her head, actually. "Though, I don't see any ears up here." she offered with a smirk, before returning to a more neutral posture. "I'm impressed. Well done."

Chuckling softly, Nikki said, "Thank you, Commander." She dark gaze took in both members of the command team as she added, "I think that's everything. Now that we have a plan of attack, so to speak, we can move forward."

Standing up as the rest of the crew left the security department, Shaille turned her attention away from the console and looked toward Nikki. "If there's nothing else Lieutenant, I'm off duty now."

"One last thing," Nikki said quietly. "I'm impressed by your work, Lieutenant. It was a good catch. No question. What I'm not impressed by ... is your attitude. So, pending evaluation by Lieutenant Styvek, you're off the rotation."

Without waiting for another word, Shaille turned on her heel and walked out of security, saving her muttering until she was clear in the corridor.
