It's Not Easy Being Green

Mission: Getting To Know You
Location: Marine Area - USS Astraea
Timeline: Backpost

The one part of the ship that Abigail had not yet explored was the Marines area. Though the Marine complement they had was small, it was big enough to warrant them having their own area and Abigail was thoroughly intrigued.

As she walked through the main doors, she was surprised to see that it was mostly empty. There were two Marine's off to one side talking among themselves, both of whom immediately snapped to attention and acknowledged her before directing her toward the MCO's office.

Amanda was sat in her office, going over the roster of Marines on her team. She had come aboard to a whole new marine Platoon, which would eventually be expanded to a Company. She was planning to split the Platoon into three squads, each specialised in their own specific role, and she had to work out who would be better in each squad.

She'd already selected her Squad leaders, and was now just trying to decide who would be a good fit for each squad.

Pausing in the open door, Abigail leaned against the door frame watching Amanda for a few moments. "Penny for your thoughts?" she finally offered with a smile.

Amanda looked up, and saw the Commander in the door. "Ah, good morning Abi. I'm just trying to sort my mismatch of marines into workable, usable squads. How are you this morning?" She asked, waving her hand towards the seat opposite her.

Taking the seat, Abigail leaned back in the chair and crossed her legs. "Thought I'd take a break from the bridge and come check and see how you were settling in. Any issues on your side so far?"

Amanda shook her head slightly. "Nothing so far. I have enough marines on board for three different teams, I just need to sort out who goes where. They're a bunch of misfits...but we'll get them into shape." She replied, handing over a pad detailing the marine manning.

Taking the PaDD, Abigail scanned through it quickly, nodding slowly as she read the information within. "Looks reasonable," she said quietly. "Everyone settling in okay? No trouble with anything so far?"

Amanda nodded again. "Nothing so far, everyone has been scheduled a checkup with the Medical team onboard, however I haven't booked one in yet, which I really should do. Did I ever tell you how much I disliked Doctors?" She asked, smiling.

"You have, every time we've had this conversation," Abigail replied with a smile. "And I'll tell you this time what I told you last time, and the time before that. Suck it up cupcake. The only difference is, this time I get to add, 'and that's an order'!" she said with a grin. "So make your booking with medical, I want your results on my desk within 24 hours, okay?"

Amanda gave a dramatic sigh. "Fine...but only because it's an order...when are we planned to set off?" She asked, trying to change the subject of the conversation quickly.

"We have our orders, we'll be leaving in the morning once all the paperwork is filed and we're cleared for departure," Abigail replied with a smile. "Should be an easy first mission, just a simple delivery."

"Famous last words...my team will be ready for the worst case scenario anyway, so there shouldn't be any issues." Amanda replied, smiling. "They just need a bit of drilling first. Are you happy for me to take over the holodeck for the next few days?" She asked, smiling cheekily.

"Take holodeck two, it's slightly smaller, but that way we can hold holodech one in reserve in case we need it for our guests," Abigail said with a smile. "Let me know if you need anything else, okay?"

Amanda nodded. "You know I will boss. And if you need anything from me just ask!" She answered, smiling.

"Oh, you can count on it," Abigail shot back with a quick grin as she waved over her shoulder on her way out the door. "You can count on it!"
