Heads Up

Posted on Tue Jul 23rd, 2019 @ 5:58pm by Captain Abigail Laurens & Lieutenant Commander Calvin Morgan

Mission: War and Peacekeeping
Location: USS Astraea - Main Sickbay

Sickbay was busy but not bustling to the point that Abigail felt it necessary to come back later, instead she just stood aside, waiting for the Chief Medical Officer to be free before approaching him. "Lieutenant Morgan, sorry to bother you, unfortunately I need a few moments of your time," she said quietly. "Can we go to your office?"

"Calvin," he corrected with a smile, leaving to anyone around them the thought he was being his normal jovial self. He always thought it best to keep the same aires in front of others when it came to matters possibly touchy to the patient. "Right this way," He led them to his office where he offered her a seat.

Taking the offered seat, Abigail leaned back, giving him a chance to get settled and comfortable before she started. "I'll get straight to the point," she said quietly. "The Zendaya is dead in the water, so we're are on our way to rendezvous with the Zendaya to collect the rest of the Trion colonists. Honestly, we have no idea how this is going to play out, so I'm going to order armed guards for sickbay. I'd like to hope that nothing will go wrong, but we're intending to prepare for the worst as well."

Calvin leaned forward in his seat on his side of the desk, the one he had sat down on moments after he offered the Captain a seat. His forearms rested on the table as his face turned from the happy go lucky bedside manner to serious. "The fact that I'm getting armed guards makes me think you have some concerns or possible scenarios playing out in your head. Are there threats? Possibilities?"

"Given we're about to have both sides of a civil war on the ship, I'm just not wanting to take chances," Abigail replied quietly. "Commander Gail and Lieutenant Voroshilov are have agreed that we just need to take precautions, especially in areas that are of particular importance or may provide access to anything that could be used as a weapon... or worse." She sighed softly and ran her fingers through her hair. "I don't want to alarm the crew for no reason, I just want to make sure everyone is safe, hence the armed guards. It's a 'just in case'," she said quietly.

Calvin leaned back and thought about it for a moment. A lot of variables bounced around in his head as he clasped his hands together and rested his chin on them. "I will get into contact with Security about it and make a game plan. We haven't run intruder or quarantine drills yet so I will make sure those happen as well. Security needs to be able to work with my people, and vice versa of course. It is difficult for medical crew to differentiate between patient importance and safety of themselves sometimes. If you're suggesting what I think you are, an issue could come in more ways than a few bad guys with phasers politely knocking on the door."

Abigail nodded slowly. "This is our concern," she said quietly. "As I said, at this point it may turn out to be entirely unfounded, but I'd rather be safe than sorry and take a few extra precautions now than see it come to that and not be prepared."

"Always the best plan," He thought for a few more minutes, building a checklist in his head. He scratched his head, unsure if it was itchy or just allowing himself to fidget. "Please let me know when the pre boarding security meeting will be. I will have some questions for intelligence and security most likely by that point once I have my ducks in a row." He thought for a moment before smiling, "Medical will be ready for whatever is thrown our way."

With a grateful smile Abigail nodded again. "Thank you," she said quietly. "It's reassuring to know that everyone is ready. I imagine that the briefing will be within the next few hours, I'm just giving security and intel a chance to do their thing before we get everyone together so we have everything we need to battle plan accordingly."

Calvin nodded. “Well if you would excuse me then Captain, I have work to do,” He said as he stood, readjusting his uniform as he did.
