=/\= Captains Ready Room - USS Astraea =/\=

Abigail had just returned to the Astraea after her meeting with Captain Vonn. The information they had been able to gather about Tejar, though limited, had helped take the sting out of the disaster the two away teams had been. The medical facility at 332 had accepted handover of the most seriously injured, including their very own Lieutenant Alani, a blow that Abigail didn't want to have to face. The Bolian Chief of Security had made a lasting impression on the crew, losing her was hard. Still, as a parting gift, Captain Vonn had managed to find a new Chief of Security, one Lieutenant Alom Ehal, whom, according to ships security, was on his way to meet with her already.

The Bajoran man made his way from the turbolift on the bridge. He still had his duffel slung over his shoulder. Glancing around the bridge of the Akira class starship. Each station, save a few of the science stations, was manned. The ship was stopping here for just a short time, and he was glad that he made it on time to be able to get aboard before she left. He spotted the door to the Captain's ready room, approaching the door he pushed the chime.

Abigail stood up, tugging at her jacket as the doors parted. The figure of the new Security Chief was definitely imposing, that much was immediately apparent. "Lieutenant Ehal Alom," She paused, and then laughed. "Sorry, that's not right is it? Alom Ehal? Is that it? Captain Abigail Laurens, welcome to the USS Astraea," she held her hand toward him with a genuine smile.

"That is correct Captain." The Bajoran man said approached her desk and took her hand. This tradition with Humans always confused him, but he learned to live with it. "Pleasure to meet you ma'am."

She motioned to the seat, waiting for him to sit before she continued. "Can I get you a drink or anything?" she offered. "Did you have any trouble getting onto the ship?" She moved to the replicator, ordering herself a chai latte and waiting to see if he wanted anything before proceeding.

"Just iced water please." Ehal said taking a seat in the chair, "Not at all. I arrived three days ago, and just waited for the ship to arrive. Used a few days leave so that I didn't have to spend the time patrolling the station with their security department." The Bajoran smiled.

"From what I've heard, that could be a blessing in disguise," Abigail said with a laugh as she replicated the water and carried it to him. "I'll be honest, I've not had a chance to look over your jacket. What can you tell me about yourself?"

"You're telling me." The Lieutenant took the water and took a sip, "Well, let's see... I was born and raised on Bajor, during the Cardassian Occupation. My parents were part of a resistance cell, and fought the Cardies. I was too young to fight before Starfleet came in and the Cardies left." He took another sip of water, "Joined Starfleet on my 18th cycle, and went from there. Served on the U.S.S. Newport for six years, and on the Yosemite for 8 as Chief Security and Tactical Officer. That brings me up to date."

"And now here you are," Abigail replied with a laugh and a shake of her head before taking a sip of her chai. "We have a good security team here, they've handled themselves well. Actually, it isn't just security, we've had a great crew across the board. The Astraea is my first full Command. We've been aboard the ship with this crew for over a year now. Our last Chief of Security unfortunately was taken over to 332 with the wounded from Kessik. She suffered a severe neural reaction to a phaser shot which incapacitated her. She'll need extensive rehabilitation before being able to resume duties, which is why we now have you." She paused, took another sip of chai and offered a smile. "I must admit, it was incredibly fortuitous that you happened to be available so readily, but, I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth," she finished.

"That is unfortunate. I will say a prayer to The Prophets for her and the other survivors." Ehal said crossing his legs. "Yeah. I was actually trying to find where a ship that needed a Chief Sec/Tac, and when I saw you were coming here I jumped on the chance. I am just glad that I was between postings."

Abigail smiled and nodded her head slightly. "As am I. Now, do you have any questions about the Astraea before I let you get settled in?"

"Do we have any pending security concerns or risks that I should be aware of?" The Bajoran Security Chief asked.

There was another shake of her head and Abigail offered a smile. "Right now, things seem to be pretty straight forward. We're departing as soon as possible to return to Earth to deliver Ms Lin to Starfleet." She paused for a moment. "She was on Kessik III, came back with our away team. She was involved in their abduction but not the explosions or anything else. I didn't feel it appropriate to hand her over to Kessik judicial forces. Their penalties tend to be.... harsh."

"I have read about them." The Bajoran Security Chief said finishing off the water, "I am going to be doing weekly security drills and I am going to be having the Master-at-Arms do weekly audits of the weapons locker. Does that work with you?"

"That will be fine," Abigail said with a smile. "Liaise with Commander Gail, she will make sure you have everything you need. Now, is there anything else?"

"I will do that Captain, and there is nothing else." Ehal said standing to his feet, "Thank you for your time. I look forward to serving with you. If that is all I will take my leave and report to Commander Gail."

"Of course Commander, and welcome aboard," Abigail said with a warm smile waiting until he walked out before returning to her console.
