Running with Scissors

Posted on Mon Jul 15th, 2019 @ 3:27am by Lieutenant Commander William Gunnison & Master Chief Petty Officer Hans-Peter König

Mission: Getting To Know You
Location: Lt Gunnison's Quarters
Timeline: Right after the Chief meets with the Skipper

König wasn't entirely sure if the Skipper was joking about putting a child lock on Voroshilov's replicator but it seemed like she might have been. Of course, an officer of Voroshilov's resourcefulness would just be able to find (or possibly make) knives without his replicator but König wasn't actually that worried about the LT. Yes, he was undisciplined, and yes he was a natural-born killer, but König never got the feeling that the LT was a genuine menace to public safety.

However, the Skipper's orders were an excuse to play fuck-fuck games with the Lieutenant which was his favorite activity as an instructor. He saw no reason to give up the source of recreation just because he no longer taught at SOD school. So, immediately after his chat with Commander Laurens, the Chief began to seek out the Chief of Operations who König noted had just checked in aboard the vessel. He found himself in front of Lt Gunnison's door. Leaning against his cane, the Chief tapped the door chime.

Will heard the chime, he called, "Enter." A part of him wondered who'd the first visitor to his quarters would be, and it seemed he was about to find out. The doors opened to reveal someone in command red with a master chief petty officer rank pip. Even if Will hadn't just taken a look at the personnel files of the crew, it didn't take a lot of deductive reasoning to figure out who the man was.

"Chief Konig, come in, come in," Will said. "What can I do for you?"

König took a couple of steps over the threshold. "Good afternoon, sir," he addressed Lieutenant Gunnison, "I have a request from the Skipper." The chief tapped his cane against the deck trying to figure out how to word the request, "Have you heard of Lieutenant Aleksi Voroshilov?"

"Yes, I know of Lt. Voroshilov," Will said. "We went to the Academy at the same time, though I don't really profess to know him on an individual basis. We must have largely run in different circles during that time." Will paused, then said, "Commander Laurens told me she'd asked you to work with Operations on something. Am I to assume that it has to do with our esteemed Intel chief?"

König raised an eyebrow at the word "esteemed." Was the Lieutenant being sarcastic? Probably. Getting back down to business, "It would seem that the Skipper has come to the conclusion that Lieutenant Voroshilov can't be trusted with sharp objects," König intentionally left out his role in helping her arrive at that conclusion, "And would like a 'child lock' placed on his replicator. Does that sound doable, sir?"

"It's certainly doable, though I do have to wonder about being able to lock out for any noticeable length of time someone who's in the Intel field," Will said. "Or, for that matter, limiting it to sharp objects, considering Lt. Voroshilov's familiarity with foreign material exploitation. Certainly, if the man is a possible danger to the ship or its crew, wouldn't it be wise to alert security, or at least bring in Counselor Engels?"

"Let's just say that Lieutenant Voroshilov hasn't learned his lesson about running with scissors," König shrugged his shoulders, "And he is not an engineer, sir. Last I checked the replicators aboard this vessel are of Starfleet design. Compromising our tech is not the same skillset as determining the capabilities of enemy weaponry.

"Regardless, this is a request from the Skipper, sir. If you don't trust her judgment then might I recommend you put in for a transfer sooner rather than later?"

"I trust the skipper's judgement. What I may have reason to call into question is the judgement of anyone who might get her to do something to accomplish their own personal desires...not that anyone else on this ship would ever be such a person, of course. I'll get right on that, but I'd like you to remeber a couple of things for me. The first is that 'foreign materials' is a very, very broad term. Sometime, have me tell you just how many things present right now in just these quarters that I alone could use as a weapon, and I'm not even the most trained, or even only trained, person on this ship in that regard. The second thing is something that a very wise person once taught me - there are few things more dangerous in this universe than a cornered animal with nothing left to lose.

"Now, if you'l excuse me, I do believe I have work to attend to."
