Making The Rounds

Mission: Sounds of Silence

High Supervisor Ran'toth wandered the corridors of the starship slowly so as not to become visible in any way, shape or form. The phase technology was truly a wonder of his race's mind, allowing them to remain hidden from their... Donors. Donors that didn't even know their contribution to his society. As he found others of his race, he collected the contents of their extraction devices and made a mental calculation. Forty-five percent of their target collection amount from this set of donors.

Cortisol was such a valuable medicine for him and his people and what he picked up from the crew of the Astraea would keep a good portion of his planet's population under the influence for at least a quarter of a standard orbit around their star. He stepped out of the way of a pair of obviously frustrated crewmembers of this starship, followed by one of his own crewers. In passing, he collected this one's stash as well.

As he rounded the corner of the next corridor, his scent receptors flared as he recognized one of the rarest of the different flavors of cortisol, those of a child. This one would have one of the best of his technicians in attendance and he noticed her just as she made an extraction and the small creature wailed nearly noiselessly as the female that cared for it fussed over them. This young, he couldn't tell the gender of the small creature.

He beckoned the technician over to him and exceedingly gently took the vial of cortisol that was kept separate from the rest. A youngling's extraction was far more potent than those of the adults. He gave the gesture of respect to the technician, effectively dismissing her to continue her task and held the vial up, marveling at the liquid within. He had to secure it quickly as a female, yes, this was definitely a female, brushed past him, himself barely getting out of the way before she would have bulled right through him, obviously she was on her way somewhere in a hurry, something clutched in her left hand, not important in any case. Her scent wafted to him, she was almost ripe again. One of his technicians would certainly find her soon.

He continued on his way, already making notes to send out to his technicians: The operation would end in a couple of the local day cycles. They survived by being unseen, unknown, a ship would get sick, be sick a couple days, then get better with no one being the wiser. Very few even knew of his species, so much the better, no one to harm them, conquer them, exploit them. And he, the High Supervisor, was a critical part of his people's plan to remain alone, out of sight.

Yes, two day cycles of the ship would be enough, his technicians would have to redouble their efforts, just to be sure.
