Drinks and Meets

Mission: Getting To Know You

It had been a long day for Calvin, who after meeting the Captain had gone back to Sickbay to begin inventorying and setting things up the way he liked them. He was indifferent about a lot, but not his work space. After hours of work, he realized that he never ate lunch, and to his horror never ate breakfast either. As if it was on queue, his stomach rumbled loudly, which told him his day was done.

It wasn't more than a half hour after closing up Sickbay for the night he found himself at one of the bar lounges. He nestled into a corner stool, which allowed him easy vantage of the room and easy conversation with the bartender. With drink and food in front of him, his stomach started to quell its revolt.

Hans finished his initial inspections in engineering and had even met the Captain, now that his obligations were completed, it was time for some fun. He entered the bar and spotted an empty bar stool beside another officer. After ordering some Tennessee Whiskey on ice, he turned to the man beside him, "Good Evening, Sir."

"Evening! Call me Calvin, I don't subscribe to the formalities of the pips," He said, tapping the pins on his neck. "Pull up a stool." He took a sip of his beer. "What brings you to this establishment?" He asked with a joking tone.

Hans sat down on the empty bar stool and replied, "Good Evening Calvin, I am Hans. I am here simply because I heard through the grapevine that they have real whiskey here, not that synthesized stuff."

Calvin made a disgusted face, "synthesized stuff, gotta be drunk to appreciate that." He chuckled at the irony of his own statement. He unbuttoned his uniform jacket, trying to get a little more comfortable while he chewed on another bite of his food. "Which of the yellow departments do you belong to?" He asked after swallowing his bite.

"Chief Engineer on the Astrae, she was just refitted and boy does her warp core purr. I can't wait to get her out and see how what kind of warp speeds those things can hit. I bet with a little bit of TLC we can hit 9.5. How about you? what ship are you on? Hans asked as he swallowed his first shot of whiskey, and waved for another.

Calvin looked over at the man, lifting an eyebrow as he swallowed his food. "Funny enough, I'm your Doctor," he said chuckling. "Sickbay was beautifully done. Needed some tweak and organizing, but in good shape. She seems like a good ship." He picked up his glass and held it out, "Cheers to the Astraea."

Hans lifted his glass, "Cheers to Astraea," he said as he took a drink, "She does seem like a good ship, I've been all over the warp core, and the engines, everything looks to be in ship shape. I assume with the new crew moving in most of the departments need organizing but that's something that will happen underway. I think that's the beauty of of joining a newly refitted ship you get to move in and personalize it."

Calvin nodded in agreement to the statement, sipping away at his drink. "When I first got onboard Phoenix she was a wreck on the inside. My OCD was off the wall. Took me weeks to get her to the point where I could even sleep soundly, a few more to get it up to my standards." He leaned slightly to his companion. "I'm a bit insane," he said with a wicked smile.

"I think it helps to be a bit insane," Hans said with a grin, "Besides normal is boring. Normal people don't find the one bar on a Starbase that serves real whiskey in old fashioned bottles. I'll let you in on a secret since it seems we will be traveling together. I buy several bottles of the good stuff for use later," Hans said with a wink. "So if you're ever having a bad day, or just need a little pick me up, come see ole Hans,"he said pounding a fist to his chest proudly.

"Quite true, quite true," He agreed taking the last swig of his drink, setting it down gingerly. "I may or may not have my own stash as well, for medicinal purposes of course. And if you drink with me, you can say goodbye forever to hang overs, something I've gotten quite good at treating. Hopefully our fellow crew aren't too much of sticks in the mud."

"I hope not my friend, sticks in the mud are only fun when," Hans paused for a moment, "I don't recall ever having fun with a stick in the mud actually. I've enjoyed messing with a Vulcan a time or two, That's always fun." Hans continued speaking as the alcohol loosened his wits, "As far as a Hangover cure, this is something we may need to discuss later."

"Oh Vulcans always make a bar night a good one," He said with a chuckle. "Or a Klingon if you're feeling feisty!" He turned to the bartender and ordered another drink. "Well we might as well see what trouble we can get into."

Hans laughed along with the man, "As much as I've enjoyed this evening, I will have to cut my time short. Captain said we're leaving in 48 hours, which means I have to start the pre-flight engine checks. I'd rather be safe than sorry if you know what I mean." Hans finished his drink, shook hands with Calvin and returned to his quarters, 0500 would come early tomorrow.
