Who Knocks Out Here?

Posted on Mon Dec 21st, 2020 @ 12:41pm by Captain Abigail Laurens & Lieutenant Sylvia Wiseman & Commander Ichiko Gail

Mission: Enforced Intermission
Location: Escape Pod - Previous USS Astraea
Timeline: Post USS Astraea

The moments leading up to the obliteration of the USS Astraea were frantic, and now the inhabitants of each of the various escape pods were faced with the prospect of the endless waiting. The hope that someone would show up, and bring them in out from the cold, as it were. With some pods containing injured folk, some worse off than others, for a few it was a matter of damage control. For others, it was just the waiting.

The silence was broken early, though, by the onboard sensors picking up.... something. Then the comms announcing that a ship was approaching. A small craft, some form of shuttlecraft, perhaps? There was an eternity of sorts from initial comm and the next piece of interaction, as something new cast a shadow through the viewport. Something distinctly not another pod. This seemed more a form like a person. Or a person in an EVA suit. Humanoid, two arms, two legs, one head, though plenty of headspace.

Certainly not of Starfleet design, the EVA suit on the other side of the viewport tapped on the port a few times to get the attention of the inhabitants, while its faceplate lifted to reveal a familiar sight: A Ts'usugi!. He chiming in on the comms. "Ga iu koto o wakarimasu ka?" he spoke, then again in another tongue: "Kan du första mig?". Another pause, and then another try, "Can you understand me?"

Ichiko perked up at hearing the native tongue, and she clicked back on the comm, "Everyone in here speaks Federation standard." and the figure magnetized to the escape pod exterior gave a nod, "Confirmed. We'll use these words then. What is your status?"

To say that the knock at the view port was a surprise was nothing short of an understatement. Between the tapping on the glass and the unexpected voice on the comm, Abigail would have fallen out of her seat if she wasn't still safely restrained. The ensuing scramble would likely have been comical under other circumstances, but here, now, the only thought was that the cavalry had arrived. Restraints removed, Abigail was on her feet in a heartbeat, offering a slight nod to her new champion. "I'm Captain Abigail Laurens, our ship was destroyed. We have injured people who need urgent medical assistance at the very least, are you able to help?"

"Good welcome Shipmaster Laurens. I'm Class Two Advanced Recon, Noro Dah. I'm one of the investigators sent out on forward inspection of the site to ensure the ICS Tantamount is needed. Our element leader is in contact with them now, and they should be on their way. I have chatter, a doctor is located and is uninjured." he advised. "We have eyes on your crew Shipmaster, they'll be prioritized by severity and transmatted to a makeshift medical unit. We're not detecting hostiles in this region, and the Tantamount will be in transmat range in sixty ticks."

He paused for a moment, then made it a point to look Abigail directly in the eye. "You are safe, Shipmaster. Your crew will endure."

Abigail nodded slightly, unable to help the sense of relief and reassurance that overcame her. Finally, after a moment of thought, she toward Ichiko. "Sixty ticks? translate?"

"Sixty seconds." Ichiko commented, "And Transmat is our term for transport. Specifically, transport via transporter, rather than via a shuttle." Ichiko offered with a smirk. "

Abigail managed a half hearted laugh. "I guess that should have been obvious." She paused, turning in the escape pod to glance at the rest of her bridge staff. "Looks like the cavalry has arrived."

Ichiko gave a nod in confirmation, while the Recon scout Noro outside commed to his other scounts. "We have you queued for transmat, standby."

An odd blue glow encompassed them all, and the next time they were solid matter, they were in a re-purposed cargo hold on board a ship entirely not of Federation design. Cots and medical beds filled the bay, to accept the wounded and the weary. Soft lighting illuminated the region, while Ts'usugi crew went from person to person to check on them. Triage, but in the nicest sense...

Seeing Roger in such shape queued him to arrive on an actual bed, with a nurse on standby the moment he was finished materializing. Medical staff, nurses, and even just crew that had some medical training, were going person to person to check on everyone's health and well being.

Rematerializing on the Ts'usugi vessel, Abigail exhaled slowly and looked toward Ichiko. "Once the wounded are triaged we need to start accounting for damage and casualties," she said quietly.

Sylvia groaned, rubbed her head and sat up. "Where are we?" she asked.

Ichiko gave a nod to Abigail, "Agreed." before turning to the groggy Sylvia, "We're aboard the ICS Tantamount, a ship of my people. We're safe." she assured.
