The vibrations continue

Posted on Wed Oct 21st, 2020 @ 1:57pm by Captain Abigail Laurens & Lieutenant Mica Rue

Mission: Into The Delta Triangle
Location: Mica Rue's quarters

"Lt Rue to Medical, I've had a small incident and wondered if someone could come to my quarters to fix me up?"

"Someone is on their way, ETA five minutes."

"Understood. Thank you."

The woman turned, stepping gingerly toward the couch opposite her. None of this made sense. She had done the final checks on the implant engineering before they had implanted on her. Hell, she had been the one to run multiple scenario simulations on them, both stress and environmental tests before agreeing that the devices were safe to use. Burning out just wasn't possible. Not like this.

Almost to the couch, Mica frowned. There had to be something more, something different with these than the ones she had designed and approved. She inched around the coffee table, glancing at a note that was written on her tablet in her own hand. :Brothers. Mom and Dad. Dangerous. No questions. No Return. Get out Now.:

Her brows furrowed. What would encourage her to write these things? Why would she need to get out?

Nausea bloomed in her stomach as she bent over to pick up the tablet, seeing a written communique attached to the note. She tapped the screen, bringing up the email. Her eyes flit back and forth reading the content. She took a sharp breath in, eyes widening.

The intense sizzle at her temple made the padd drop just as a charge surged through her. By the time the brief pain had ended, Mica was already on the floor, eyes closed and a fresh puff of smoke escaping from her implants...

Arriving at Mica's quarters, Lucia used a medical override to gain immediate access, walking in and glancing around the common room quickly. "Lieutenant Rue?" she called at the same time her gaze fell on the woman on the floor. Rushing across, she dropped to her knees, opening the tricorder and scanning the other woman, tapping her COMM badge at the same time. "Lieutenant Gravenor to Medical, prepare for emergency medical transport."

She set the tricorder down and grabbed a hypospray, loading it with one vial and injecting it before changing the vial out for a second injection. "Lieutenant Rue, can you hear me?" she asked gently. "Are you able to respond?"

Mica’s eyelids fluttered. She could hear something, a faint droning moan, but couldn’t place the person. A hypo sprayed. Again. Slight pressure on her skin. A rush of something in her blood. Her skull was pounding, throbbing. Finally the fog cleared, just a bit. Just enough for Mica to hear a woman’s voice.

Opening her eyes a slit, she tried to sit up.

"Don't move, we're going to get you to sickbay...."

Moments later the transport was complete, Mica was on a bio bed in an isolation room and the lights had been dimmed.

"I'm not sure what happened, and I'm not sure she can tell us," Lucia started explaining quietly, keeping her voice hushed. "She has implants that appear to be overloading and causing a neural feedback loop. It's affecting her central nervous system. We can disable them, but I'm not sure how that is going to affect her, even short term. I would suggest we desensitize her central nervous system and start by disabling the most severely affected implants, that should take away enough of the additional stimuli that she should be able to regain some basic autonomy, at least in speech."

Mica continued to be aware, vaguely, that people were around her. She felt light taps on her skin, brushes over her hair. Her implants tweaked, and although she could feel the pain from the sizzling connections, she knew it was getting better, gradually. The stabbing tugging at her senses was dulling, a resounding tweaking taking over as the medical staff worked on the artificial disablers of her race.

The woman lay pulled between a state of discomfort and inability, attempting to awaken, unable but still.

Then, quite suddenly, the pain was disappearing. The pressure on her mind was subsiding, and Mica felt, at all once, that she could wake up. She moved her head, just slightly.

"I'm going to sedate her," Lucia said quietly. "It'll make things easier."

** Some Time Later **

"Mica? Mica, can you hear me?" Lucia's voice was soft and gentle as she spoke, resting one hand lightly on the shoulder of the other woman.

With every effort Mica opened her eyes, her lids fluttering open and closed.

"Take it easy and relax. You're going to be a little groggy, but you shouldn't feel any pain right now." Lucia's hand covered Mica's. "If you can hear me, try and squeeze my hand."

Lt Rue heard Lucia through the fog and understood her after a few moments of processing. Her brows furrowed but her fingers contracted, just slightly. Enough to show the med that her patient was aware. She tried to say something, but the only words she managed were a distinct mumble. She felt the soft pat of the other woman's hand on hers and quieted.

Drifting in and out of sleep, Mica rested quietly, hearing Lucia shuffle away after a short while. Still she rested, letting herself relax into the medicated bliss...
