Unharruwed Medical Exam

Posted on Sat Jul 4th, 2020 @ 8:56am by Lieutenant Commander Calvin Morgan & Lieutenant JG Haru Hernandez

Mission: Into The Delta Triangle

{ON:}

Kaito stood in the turbo lift waiting his turn to get off at the appropriate level. Today he would be doing his medical. He'd looked up Calvin Morgan and was happy to see that he was part Vulcan. That would mean straight to the point and not very probing. Vulcan's tended to be that way....although he'd met his fare share of Vulcans who were talkative and nosy. He wondered what Lieutenant Commander Morgan would be like,

Kaito exited the lift and rounded the corner that held the caduceus symbol that signified medical. He took a deep breath and entered. A lovely nurse greeted him. He resisted the urge to smile disarmingly. "I am looking for Commander Morgan."

“Hello to you too,” Ensign Nolan replied, before straightening up from the paperwork she was doing and looked around the corner. “Doc,” She said simply. Calvin rounded the corner as the nurse left.

“Don’t mind her, she just doesn’t like people,” He said with a wink. “How may I help you...” He trailed off, waiting for an introduction.

Haru handed the doctor a PaDD that he'd kept tucked into his belt. "Lieutenant Junior Grade Haru Kiato Hernandez reporting for first per duty medical sir." He saluted as the doc took the PaDD.

Taking the PaDD, he glanced down at it briefly while turning to lead the man to a bio bed. “You can drop the sir, Doc is fine,” Calvin replied smiling. “That bed please,” He walked to the adjoining console to turn it on. “Any abnormalities recently? Symptoms? Problems?”

Haru raised an eyebrow in Vulcan like fashion. "Bed please? Fascinating. I expected dinner first." He snorted. "Sorry." When he was nervous he tended to make really bad jokes. "No abnormalities....Just getting used to working out again." He paused. "Sorry sir. I get...nervous I make bad jokes."

Calvin chuckled at the man, stopping momentarily from his work at the console. “Don’t worry about it, most people aren’t excited to come see the Doctor.” He resumed his attention back to the console, looking at the baseline vitals, comparing them to the patient’s last physical and jotting a few quick notes down. “What department are you in?” The Doctor asked grabbing a medical tricorder and walking around the console to a physical assessment.

"Assistant Chief Security and Tactical," he said somewhat proudly. "I have seen my fair share of doctors and will perhaps be a regular visitor."

Calvin nodded. “You wouldn’t be my first repeat customer.” He opened the tricorder, examining several settings before removing the probe and beginning his exam. His exam consisted of a mixture of scanning and physical checks, each step being described in quick laymen’s terms as he did it.

Haru had to admit he liked the doctors approach. "This is not as bad as I thought it would be," he admitted.

“Usually people are either here because of a required physical or they did something stupid. No reason to punish someone anymore than they have to be,” Calvin replied, finishing the physical. He took a step back tapping through the tricorder double checking readings.

"Very true." He paused. "So, how am I looking. It's been a while since I've had a full medical."

“Seems to be nothing of concern, you look healthy,” Calvin replied closing the tricorder. “I’ll need to sit down and go through all the numbers and compare them to your file though. However I doubt I’ll find anything. If you have nothing else of concern, you’re free to go,” Calvin finished with a smile.

"There is one thing." He said almost hesitantly.

“Yes?” Calvin replied welcoming. He set down the tricorder, clasping his hands in front of his body.

"I...have been having trouble sleeping."

“Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep? Dreams? Please elaborate,” Calvin requested, ensuring a sincerity in his voice.

"Both falling asleep and staying asleep. I do not remember if I have dreams but I must, it is necessary I guess for the body. I never remember but It takes hours for me to fall asleep and then I sleep lightly and wake and then have issues falling asleep," he said honestly.

“Any changes in life recently? Abnormal levels of stress?” Calvin asked while he walked around to his console, bringing up the patient’s file and some medical information.

Kaito sighed. Where to start. "I was stationed on a ship where the person I was beginning a relationship with was killed on an away mission, my sister was injured at the Academy and then I was called to Earth to care for her where I found my grandmother was ill and she later died, I had to attend my best friends wedding and then my grandmothers funeral two days later and I have a mysterious package from an Admiral I've never heard off that was delivered to me before we left, a last gift that, he wrote, that my grandmother asked him to give me if she passed." He shrugged. "Just everyday life stuff." That had skyrocketed his stress levels.

“Everyday life stuff...” Calvin repeated, with a bit of sarcasm in his voice. His posture changed, a slightly more welcoming and open vibe coming from him. “I can see how all of that could cause sleep disturbances. Have you seen Lt. Styvek yet, the Counselor?”

"No. I have that appointment tomorrow morning for my clearance. I normally do not like counselors however I recognize that I should speak with him." He shrugged. "I am certain that all will sort itself out." He said more as a comfort to himself then anyone.

“He’s intriguing,” Calvin responded, “But I’d trust the Vulcan inside someone’s head without reservation. Just don’t shrug this off,” Calvin continued, the sincerity but seriousness in his voice. “I’ll follow up with him to see if he wants any medications proscribed.” Calvin shifted. “And if you ever are having a bad night, don’t hesitate to come down and visit. I’m almost always around.”

He stood and gave a nod. "Thank you doctor." He paused. "Am I cleared for duty medically?"

Calvin nodded, “You’re in good shape as far as I am concerned. Welcome aboard.” Calvin watched the officer leave before returning back to what he was doing.
